How it all started...
PrimoWireless was established in 2006 to provide wireless broadband services to remote Taranaki communities. It now provides both wireless and ultrafast broadband services (UFB) to thousands of business and rural customers in Taranaki.
Initially PrimoWireless was developed as a solution to help rural Taranaki people and businesses who struggled to get access to fast broadband services. Knowing that wireless is the fastest broadband technology available to the rural community, IT specialist and managing director Matthew Harrison, set about building PrimoWireless' network from the ground up. As a result, PrimoWireless' customers are now enjoying the full benefits of connecting to Taranaki's only locally owned and operated Ultrafast wireless network.
Since incorporating the business in 2008 PrimoWireless has been growing rapidly which is down to our superior high speed broadband solutions, the high level of customer service we provide and the drive of the people behind the business.
PrimoWireless Team profiles
The Top Dog
Matthew (Matt) Harrison is the humble founder and Managing Director of PrimoWireless. After discovering that rural people and businesses in Taranaki weren’t able to access fast, reliable internet, Matt decided to do something about it. So the IT specialist started building the PrimoWireless network from the ground up.
Matt is not your ordinary MD – he likes to be hands on and on fine days he can usually be found out and about looking for new sites to expand the Primo network. He even mucks in to help build them!
As PrimoWireless has grown rapidly over the past two years, when not expanding the network, Matt is busy planning for the future of the company.
A lover of all things technology, Matt is really good at social media. His other loves include his dogs, island holidays, his wife Jasmine and a glass of rum after a hard day’s work. What most people don’t know about Matt is that he’s a seriously good cook. If he wasn’t so good at IT, we reckon he’d give Gordon Ramsay a run for his money!
Above all Matt is extremely passionate about PrimoWireless and is committed to ensuring that PrimoWireless deliver the best broadband services to their customers.
The Head Zookeeper
One of our most experienced team members, Jason has been helping connect customers to PrimoWireless for over nine years now. In 2016 he took over as Manager of Operations and is an integral member of our team.
Jason’s main role is to oversee our customer service teams, helpdesk and installations ensuring that customers get connected to PrimoWireless and aren’t left waiting for years. He also checks out any faults and generally makes sure that all things connection wise are running smoothly.
Jason is pretty passionate about his job and wouldn’t want to do anything else. He reckons the best thing about working for PrimoWireless is having a varied work load and the fact that he learns something new every day. However the thing he values most about working for Primo is being able to help people and rural communities to get fast internet into their area.
When he’s not helping to connect people to PrimoWireless, Jason is busy spending time with his lovely wife and kids. He’s also into crossfit and motorbikes.
The Penny Pincher
Jasmine has been working for PrimoWireless since its inception and is responsible for pretty much everything required to keep the office running smoothly. She takes care of managing all office administration, does the accounts and is sometimes one of the first people you will talk to when you call the our customer care team.
Jasmine says that the best thing about working for PrimoWireless are her awesome colleagues. She is also extremely proud of working for a growing Taranaki business that she’s been part of right from the start (Jasmine is married to founder and Managing Director, Matthew).
Jasmine is also an animal person and has a particular passion for horses. She currently owns six of them and is always nagging Matthew for more. She also takes care of their crazy German Shepherd Dakota and Elly the cat!
The Helpdesk Wizard
As our Helpdesk Wizard, Hanan’s primary role is to look after our customers with their tech queries. If any Primo customers ever have a question or issue about our service, they can call or email Hanan and he’ll make sure it gets sorted.
Hanan is all about the customers, and when he’s not helping customers directly, he works hard behind the scenes to set up routers for the connection team. He also monitors the network to make sure everything’s working as it should. This helps to ensure our customers always have a great connection.
While Hanan believes PrimoWireless is a cool environment to work in and he enjoys the laughs our team shares, if he wasn’t one of our Wizards, he would liked to have displaced Jeremy Clarkson and taken on his role on Top Gear. Thankfully for us he didn't apply for the job!
In his down time, Hanan enjoys playing games, reading and watching movies. He’s a sports fan and unwinds by playing pool with friends while sinking a few cold ones.
Shaun du Plessis
The Connection Creator
Its three years since Shaun joined the PrimoWireless team. Shaun is the guy who sets up your broadband connection – quite literally. His job is to install PrimoWireless all over Taranaki by climbing up on our customers’ roofs to put the antennas up. He then ensures the cables are run where our customers want them to go, because he’s one of the good guys.
Although Shaun says he loves his job because of our great team, we know it’s actually because some really nice customers make him coffee while he’s out doing an install (and he thanks you all very much!).
Born and bred in New Plymouth, Shaun is proud of working for a locally owned and operated company and believes Taranaki is a special place (“Where else in the world can you Snowboard in the morning and surf till you can’t see anymore?”).
What most people don’t know about Shaun is that he’s a closet photographer and spends most weekends travelling around the region taking amazing photos. We hope he’ll start sharing these on the Primo Facebook page soon…
The Hunter Gatherer
A multi-talented campaigner, Kelly joined our team in January 2015 to help grow our business by driving sales, supporting marketing activities, and improving relationships with customers and key stakeholders.
In addition to this, Kelly is putting her exceptional HR skills to use by helping us to develop a successful people culture. Because she enjoys a challenge (and is a little bit nuts) Kelly completed a Graduate Diploma in Business, Human Resources in 2015.
Kelly believes the best thing about working about PrimoWireless is being part of a small passionate team who really care about providing quality products and the best customer service.
Kelly and her husband Steve are looking to have a belated OE experience sometime in the future now that their kids are off at University and doing their own thing. Although she loves the idea of working overseas, Taranaki will always be home. On the rare occasions where she does have some spare time, Kelly enjoys catching up with her kids in the far south and a bit of DIY at their other home in Turangi.
Andrew is pretty quiet – for an Australian. Although he was born in Melbourne, Andrew is now 100% loving life in Taranaki, which is one of the reasons PrimoWireless snapped him up.
Andrew’s main role at PrimoWireless is to help with site maintenance and construction. He also spends a lot of time supporting Matt and the team by helping out wherever he’s needed (hence the title “The Sidekick”).
What makes Andrew a really good wing man is that he enjoys the variety in his work and being able to get out and about to different sites around the region.
Outside of work, Andrew spends a lot of time baking for his family and kids. And if he wasn’t a fabulous sidekick for the Primo team, he’d probably be a fabulous chef somewhere, so we consider ourselves extremely lucky to have him.
The Connection Creator
Scott is a pretty switched on technical expert so if there’s a fault on the network or if a customer’s connection isn’t working quite as it should be, he is usually the person who gets it sorted.
Scott is truly passionate about all things technology and if he wasn’t working at PrimoWireless, he’d be a busy software developer who specialises in Software Defined Networking (we’re not all 100% sure what that is, but go Scott!).
Being part of a great team who are very much into technology is just one of the reasons Scott enjoys working for PrimoWireless. He also loves getting out and about, visiting different parts of Taranaki and seeing the mountain (nearly) every day.
When he’s not connecting new customers to our network or fixing faults, Scott enjoys playing football, conquering video games and reading good old fashioned books on his e-reader.
The Connection Creator
Daniel is a born tinkerer! Whether it’s fast cars, electronics or computers you’ll find Daniel in his element. This sets Daniel up perfectly for his work at PrimoWireless.
Daniel’s main job is traveling around Taranaki installing rural wireless and he sometimes fixes things if they are broken. He reckons the best thing about working for Primo is the people and seeing Taranaki close up and personal on a day to day basis. You might also come across Daniel on the Helpdesk from time to time filling in.
If Daniel wasn’t doing what he was doing, he’d be a radio/industrial electrical engineer in NZ/Asia Pacific region. For now he loves that the sea and mountain are closer here than anywhere in the world and that you can’t beat working in your own back yard for a great local company with great local people.
The Pixel Wrangler
Craig has now joined our team on a permanent basis as our Brand Identity Co-ordinator. He has until recently been behind the scenes developing and maintaining our website. In his permanent role you will see Craig’s creations as he now also develops our marketing and promotional material.
The people and the fact that Primo is a community minded business is what Craig likes best about working with us. He also brings with him every day his general goodwill and cheeriness!
If Craig wasn’t with Primo, he would be running his own self-sustaining retreat in the middle of nowhere. And that’s the good thing about Taranaki, there is a balance of town and country. Craig says that New Plymouth is big enough to provide the urban things he likes, but small enough to have lots of quiet spaces. All in all a great place to hang out with his kids, immerse himself in the vibrant art and culture scene and with Primo’s superfast broadband he can geek out all he likes on the internet!
The Geeky Gorilla
Craig by all accounts is a bit geeky – he is currently 60% of the way through his Bachelor of Information Sciences degree majoring in IT. So working at Primo is right up his alley. He says the best thing about working here is dealing with cutting edge technology.
What Craig really does at Primo is customer service. In his life before Primo he picked up various skills running the Techbay at Harvey Norman, tutoring IT and as a cabby. You’ll find him on the end of our phone at accounts and sales. He has his sights set on other areas of Primo as a bandwidth and redundancy engineer!Craig finds Taranaki the best place to live – not over populated, easy to commute and not too hot. Plus excellent local internet! He is an avid weather watcher (great for our work planning), along with his interests in all things geeky and automating stuff, Craig is also a Volunteer Firefighter for Inglewood.
