Update your PrimoWireless RBI Huawei B315 modem's firmware

If you have a modem like this,
your firmware is already up to date and
No update is required.

 

This page gives you step-by-step instructions on how to update your PrimoWireless Huawei B315 modem's firmware (RBI modem). Important things to know

  • It will take about 15-20 mins to update your software. While you’re doing this your broadband service will be impacted. If you have a phone connected to your modem, it will also be affected
  • Around 60MB of data is used to update your modem.
  • When you update your modem, your Wi-Fi password will need to be changed and any customised or advanced configuration will be removed
  • Improved speed is dependent on cell sites in your area being upgraded

Before you start

Before you get started have a quick look at the check list below to make sure you have everything you need for the update. You’ll need:

  • Your PrimoWireless RBI Huawai B315 modem
  • Your modem needs to be working so that you’re connected to the internet
  • Either a phone, tablet, laptop or computer connected to your modem by Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable
  • If you’re using an Apple or Android device you’ll also need to have downloaded the Huawei HiLink app to complete the update

Step-by-step instructions to update your modem

  • Computer or Laptop Open or Close

    Please make sure your computer is connected to your modem either by Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable.

    1. Using a web browser, connect to your modem by typing http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar.

      Log in as an admin user The default username and password are both ‘admin’

    2. After logging in you may see a notification that an update is available as illustrated below.

      If you see this notification, click 'update', then skip to step 4.

      If you do not see the update notification, continue on to Step 3 below.

      Step 2 online update

      1. Download the Firmware Update file to your computer from here.  DOWNLOAD UPDATE

      2. Click 'Update' in the menu, which will take you to the update page.

      3. Then click on the local update button on the left-hand panel. Click the 'Browse' button.

      4. Locate the firmware file you downloaded, select it and click open.

    3. Click the 'Update' button to start the process.

      Your modem will upgrade the firmware.

      While this is happening please do not close your web browser or unplug your modem.

      This step will take 5 to 10 minutes.

      Step 4 Wait for update

    4. Once completed, you will be prompted to log back into the modem

      Log in as an admin user (default username and password are both ‘admin’)

      Step 5 log in again

    5. Select Auto Update, select to agree to the Huawai Privacy Notice (follow the link to read), click 'Next'

    6. Check your SSID (Wi-Fi name). This is a good time to change your Wi-Fi password, to keep your connection secure.

      Step 7 Update WLAN

    7. If you have the default admin login and password (admin/admin), you will be prompted to update this.

      Update your modem admin password to 'Admin123', then click 'Finish'

      The modem will then save your new configuration and confirm with SUCCESS

    8. You can then review the settings and you're done!

  • iPhone or iPad Open or Close
    1. Make sure your iPhone or iPad is connected to your modem by Wi-Fi.

    2. Download and install the HUAWEI HiLink (Mobile WiFi) app, which is available for free from the Apple app store

    3. Open the HUAWEI HiLink app

    4. The app will prompt you for login details for your device

    5. Login as an admin user The default username and password are both ‘admin’

    6. You will see a notification that an update is available, click UPDATE

    7. The software will start downloading to your modem

    8. Once downloaded the modem will start updating itself

    9. Your modem will shut off the Wi-Fi connection and once available again you will need to reconnect to your Wi-Fi once the modem has completed updating its software and restored the Wi-Fi.

    10. If you have the default admin login and password, you will be prompted to update this

    11. You’ll need to enter ‘admin’ as your current password and think of a new one and confirm it

    12. You’ll then be prompted to login as administrator - use your new password!
    13. In the app, tap the SETTINGS icon - blue gear image top right to check on your device’s settings.

    14. There you'll be able to see info about your device as well as where to see when updates are available in the future.

  • Android smartphone or tablet Open or Close
    1. Make sure your Android smartphone or tablet is connected to your modem by Wi-Fi

    2. Download and install the HUAWEI HiLink app

    3. Log in as an admin user
      The default username and password are both ‘admin’

    4. You will see a message about using the default password, please hit CANCEL

    5. You will see a notification that an update is available, click UPDATE

    6. The software will start downloading to your modem

    7. Once downloaded the modem will start updating itself ‘The device is rebooting … please wait’

    8. Your modem will shut off the Wi-Fi connection and once available again you will need to reconnect to your Wi-Fi once the modem has completed updating its software and restored the Wi-Fi.

    9. If you have the default admin login and password, you will be prompted to update this

    10. You’ll need to enter ‘admin’ as your current password and think of a new one and confirm it

    11. You’ll then be prompted to login as administrator - use your new password!
